Understanding SAM Registration, UEI & CAGE Code
For any business planning to work with the U.S. government, these three components are essential:
UEI (Unique Entity Identifier): This is the government’s way of identifying every business. It’s required before you can move forward with anything else.
SAM Registration: Being registered in SAM means your business is recognized in the federal contracting system. Without an active SAM profile, a company cannot receive federal awards or payments.
CAGE Code: Once SAM is approved, a CAGE Code is assigned. It shows that a business is verified and eligible for federal contracts.
Together, these three elements ensure transparency, accountability, and proper identification within the federal contracting process. They form the foundation for any organization looking to participate in government-funded opportunities
