When you’re getting ready for a gig, how do you keep your paints ready to go? In their original cases? Velcro or magnetized to your own case? Repotted into another holder?

Offering services that others don’t, is a great way to bring in new customers and set yourself apart! Some popular add-ons are glitter tattoos, festival ink, glitter bars, hair tinsel, hair bands, and bubble hair. Some people sell their art! What do you offer?

What would you do if you were the customer, waiting with your child in the line for free face painting at an event, and you noticed that the painter did not change brushes between clients? Would you get out of line? Would you bring up your concerns? It happens to more people than you think. Clients (CHILDREN TOO) notice our practices, even just out of innocent curiosity. It is important for business to consistently use the most clean practices, so that clients trust us and good word- of-mouth advertising gets around. We tend to think our way is clean, because we are programmed not to think WE are dirty.. only “others” are. It’s similar to the problem with wearing gloves in restaurant kitchens.. They will put gloves on to stretch out pizza dough, but then touch the phone, handle cash, and then go back to the pizza dough, because their hands don’t feel dirty… They (their hands) are protected from outside germs. In Face painting, there are two types of “double dipping”… and one should never be used. “Double dip flowers” are a technique where you load your brush with one color like white, then immediately dip the tip of the brush into another color, to get two colors loaded onto your brush. This is a great technique to use to make flowers with dimension and a beautiful ombré of color. The second type of double dipping, is what everyone’s parents taught them not to do.. going back into the ‘dip’ with your germs on your ‘chip.’ Everyone is a Petri dish of germs, that you cannot see. We have a duty to keep our clients safe, and our kit hygienic . So do not dip into your kit with a brush that touched someone’s face!! No matter how much you think children “share germs anyways”. There will be children with autoimmune disorders we need to protect, there will be children with unknown illness that now all of your customers and even you can catch. There is no reason or excuse to dip your brush back into your kit. Sprits your brush with water if you need to activate it again, use it, then wash it if you don’t have enough brushes or time!
