Not because the tools failed.
Because I asked the wrong question.
I started looking at which tasks could be automated.
Halfway through mapping the workflow, I realized something.
The repetitive task wasn't the bottleneck.
The waiting was.
People weren't wasting time doing work.
They were wasting time waiting for someone else to make a decision.
Waiting for approval.
Waiting for information.
Waiting for someone to reply.
Removing one approval step had a bigger impact than automating five manual tasks.
That reminded me of something:
Technology speeds things up.
But it doesn't always move things forward.
Sometimes the biggest improvement comes from asking,
"Does this step even need to exist?"
I've started questioning processes before I question technology.
It's surprising how often the answer isn't another AI agent.
It's deleting a step that nobody challenged for years.
