👋 Welcome to Landscape Explorers!
Landscape Explorers is a friendly community for curious people who enjoy discovering more about themselves, one another and the living world. The idea for this group came from two young explorers, Ross and Eryn, who reminded me that learning should feel like an adventure. Together we'll explore the many landscapes that shape our lives. 🌿 The Landscapes Around Us – the places, wildlife and living systems that surround us. 💚 The Landscapes Within Us – our thoughts, feelings, values, health and habits. 🤝 The Landscapes Between Us – our families, friendships, communities and the relationships that connect us. Every week we'll set off on a new exploration together. Each exploration follows the same simple rhythm: 👀 Observe – Notice something. 💭 Reflect – Think about what you've discovered. 🔗 Link – How does it connect with other people, places or ideas? 👣 Your Next Footstep – Try one small action or explore a little further. 📷 Explorer's Log (optional) If you'd like to, share a photo, drawing or a few words about what you discovered. Every observation helps us learn more about the wonderful variety of landscapes around the world. There are no perfect answers here. Some weeks you might discover something amazing. Some weeks you might simply notice a flower, a cloud or a conversation you'd never really thought about before. That's enough. We're all learning together. If you are in a position to contribute, you can choose a Supporter membership to help with the costs of running the community, or a Scholarship Supporter membership to help us widen access to learning opportunities. Paying is entirely optional. Everyone belongs equally, whichever membership they choose. 🔎 #2.1 Explorer's Log — What did it become?
Have a look around your home, garden, shed or neighbourhood. Can you find something that has been repaired, reused or repurposed instead of thrown away? It might be something very ordinary — an old container being used for storage, clothes passed on to someone else, a broken object that has been repaired, scraps used for making something, or an object now doing a completely different job. Show us what you found. You could share a photo, drawing or description and tell us: What was it originally? What is it used for now? Did anyone have to repair or change it? What resources might have been saved by keeping it in use? Extra explorer challenge: Can you find something you've thrown away recently and imagine another possible use for it? This photo is of the run that I made for my chickens from old pallets, off cuts of water pipe and an old fishing net, held together with baler twine which comes with the hay bales I buy for my goats.

#2.1 Waste, Repair & Simplicity
We often think something becomes waste when we have finished using it. But does it have to? Things can often be repaired, reused, shared, adapted or turned into something completely different. Sometimes the best solution is simply to use what we already have for longer. Of course, we can't avoid all waste. The things we buy and use are part of much bigger systems, and we don't control all of them. But we can explore what happens to things in our own lives — and look for opportunities to keep useful materials useful.

👣Expedition #2 briefing: the hidden landscape
Most things we use have travelled through landscapes and people's lives before they reach us. Choose something ordinary that you use, wear or eat. 🔎 Become a landscape detective. See what you can discover about it: Where might it have begun? What land, plants, animals or raw materials were needed? Who might have been involved? Who grew, made, transported or sold it? What did it need along the way? Think about water, energy, packaging and transport. What happens when we're finished with it? What connections can you notice? How does something in your life connect you with people and landscapes elsewhere? You don't need to find every answer. The expedition is about noticing connections that are usually hidden.
