Breathing exercise 🔥🚀📈
🎺 Take a close look at this breathing exercise. Many of you have already worked on this with me during our lessons, but I want you to pay special attention to the difference in the sound of the air. Notice how I start with a slow, passive airflow and then immediately compress it into a faster, more focused stream of air. Also, watch what is happening in my support system (the lower abdominal area). The goal is to coordinate support, air compression, and direction all at the same time. The support activates the compression, and that compressed air is then focused directly toward the vibration point. Don’t worry if your cheeks puff out during this exercise. This is not an embouchure exercise. The purpose is simply to activate your air and learn to feel the difference between passive air and highly active, focused air. Give it a try at home and pay attention to how the air feels when it becomes compressed and efficient. We’ll work on it together in your next lesson. See you soon! 🎺

This video is from the amazing trumpet player Ashley Halltighe, and is just a great explanation of what happened if we applied too much pressure to out lips (sweet spot)

Here, we train with a modern approach, applying vocal technique and full-body support so the air does the work — not pressure.
