Katie’s Readers began in 2009 in memory of Katie Jonis, who sadly passed away at the age of seven. What started as a small book drive in the expat community in KL, Malaysia, has grown into a youth-led programme connecting high school and university students with primary school children in their communities.
The Pass It On programme trains and supports youth volunteers to share storytelling, crafts, movement, and conversation sessions in underserved schools, helping children practise English with fluent speakers, while giving students a meaningful way to take part in community service.
Now part of Raising Change, the Katie’s Readers Pass It On Programme is designed with expat families and international schools in mind, allowing parents, teachers, and students to connect more deeply with their host country, wherever they are in the world.
