I was sure I knew the way... until Google Maps proved me wrong.
A few days ago, I had an important meeting with a product leader.
I checked the route the night before - 30 minutes, no problem.
The next morning, I started driving, feeling confident.
Then, 10 minutes in… a notification popped up from Google Maps:
🚨 Faster route available. Heavy traffic ahead.
But my ETA didn’t change. So, I thought, it’s probably unnecessary and ignored it.
But let me tell you, that was a bad call. Minutes later, I hit a massive jam.
Google was right. Again.
We have all been there, trusting our instincts over Maps, only to regret it later.
Of course, Google Maps isn’t always perfect (that’s a discussion for another day), but most of the time, its predictions are eerily accurate. And that’s where it gets interesting.
How does Google Maps know traffic conditions before we even get there?
It uses AI, real-time data, and millions of users feeding it information… every second.
That means it isn’t just showing traffic but predicting it before it happens.
How does it all work? And why does it (almost) always get it right?
