My Sales Origin Story I met my wife on the first day of 7th grade at the bus stop. We’ve basically grown up together. When we were about 20 years old, she told me something that changed how I thought about my future. She said she wanted to have five girls one day because she grew up as one of five sisters. At the time, I was working construction. The work was honest, but I started thinking… if we’re going to build a big family, I need to find a way to make more money. One day in Walmart I came across the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. One idea in that book stuck with me: if you want to become wealthy, you have to learn how to sell. Back then I thought the only thing I could sell was side construction work on the weekends. So I tried knocking on doors and talking to homeowners. It didn’t go well. People slammed doors, yelled at me, and one time I even got chased by dogs. I realized something important: people weren’t rejecting me—they just didn’t trust my ability to communicate value. I didn’t have the sales skills yet. So I decided I needed to learn. I took a job selling credit card processing because they said they would train me. The “training” ended up being about 8 hours and then they basically sent you out into the real world to figure it out yourself. The next two years were full of trial and error. I struggled, failed a lot, and slowly learned what worked and what didn’t. During that time I signed 24 clients. Some of the techniques I learned from that company helped, but some were honestly bad habits I later had to unlearn. Eventually I found a company where the owners who each had over 30 years of experience personally mentored me. That’s where everything changed. For the first time I learned real sales skills—how to ask the right questions, understand problems, communicate value, and close deals the right way. Today I make over six figures a year in sales. This community exists because I don’t want people to spend years going through the same trial and error I did.
