"There is the pain of discipline or the pain of regret" - Jim Rohn
This quote put "Discipline" in a great perspective for me. Below are my thoughts about it recorded in my journal. Hope it may help someone out there who needs to hear it.
There will be pain regardless.
Discipline is pain. Discipline has a cost. It's not cheap.
Discipline's value is hard to find in the beginning.
Discipline is not a one time use.
Discipline is as necessary for your Trading business as water is for your body.
I made a choice to treat this as a business.
In that choice there will be pain. The evidence of "How Serious" that decision was will be seen in which type of pain I experience.........or will experience.
If I have no pain of Discipline in the things that must be done daily concerning my trading business........then I will at some point in the future, experience the pain of regret.
Discipline is Pain, but Regret is a worse kind of pain. I've experienced the pain of regret several times in my life. It does hurt. It doesn't disappear either. It sticks around and reminds.
The Pain of Regret eats at your soul. It's painful.
The Pain of Regret can be a deep pit.
Discipline is the preventable medicine to regret stealing your dreams, desires and goals.
A Traders Disciplines. Recording every single trade daily. Journaling daily. Maintaining your mindset daily. Taking care of your body thru exercise, nutrition. End of week review, etc.. Im sure there are many more and these can even be broken down into smaller divisions.
Do These disciplines help prevent most if not all of the reasons that 90% of traders fail...and will prevent my failure? I don't know, because I do not know it all...but I'm leaning towards YES.
Do those 90% of traders that failed and never returned to trade again... experience the "Pain of Regret"?
Are there active traders right now experiencing the pain of regret for:
They regret going on tilt. They regret the fact that they always FOMO in. They regret that they over traded. They regret that they over leveraged. They regret they strategy hopped for 5 years and never mastered 1 strategy. Regret. Pain. Regret. Pain
I have experienced the pain of regret doing all the above, and I'm not saying I'm immune to to doing them again as I am human, but I have to believe that the disciplines required to be a very successful trader will limit the above negative actions to uncommon mishaps.
There will be pain regardless
The Pain of Discipline
or
The Pain of Regret
One hurts but for a moment. The other could hurt for a lifetime.
I'll choose the Pain of Discipline...as the reward can't be measured.
I do hope this helps with perspective of Discipline. It sure helps me!
What Pain will you choose today...and everyday?
