A Day in a Life Of Pain
Before we get started, let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Pain. I originally reside in the brain. I come to you when you least expect it, yet I also come when you call on me. Regardless, I’m always trying to tell you something. I am nothing more than a signal, and my original name is nociceptor. No matter where I come from, there is always a story to be told. I recently paid a visit to Max, who works from home. I came shooting down his left leg, introducing myself as sciatica. Prior to my visit, I was present only as a dull ache. I could have stopped there, but I was never stretched—only compressed. I went away for a while due to Max’s positive lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, Max didn’t maintain those habits, so I came back with a vengeance. This time, I brought my friends: numbness and tingling. Until Max finally listened. He called In-Balance. There, he met Ramy—a licensed massage therapist who knew better than to chase the symptom. Ramy assessed Max and uncovered the real origin of my voice. I did not begin in the leg. I began in the neck. Hours of sitting without movement pulled the head forward. The shoulders followed, rounding inward, collapsing the chest. The thoracic spine bore the weight, curving into a hunch. That stress traveled downward, compressing the lumbar spine—where the roots of the sciatic nerve wait quietly. The pelvis tipped forward. The hips tightened. And the nerve became trapped. Twice a week, for six weeks, he released what had been chronically shortened and awakened what had been overstretched and forgotten. Through skilled hands, precise assessment, and intentional soft-tissue work, space was restored. Movement returned. Balance was rebuilt. And once the body listened… I left. My job was done. Pain is not punishment. Pain is information. And in the right hands, information leads to healing.
