“A Storm Is Coming Or Is It Here?”
“when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.”
~ Proverbs 1:27 NIV
Picture a warm summer backyard party where all the guests are having a great time, but then suddenly the wind picks up. The sky darkens, and the scent of rain is in the air. Quickly everyone scrambles indoors for safety. Just as the last person rushes in, the skies let go. Inside, people begin to gather into clusters. One group stands at the window, oohing and aahing at the thunder and lightning outside. Others hug each other or cover their ears; a few jump and shudder with every boom. But another group is just chatting away, seems completely oblivious to the weather. Isn't this a picture of how people react differently to the storms of life?
When it comes to the upheavals we face, our varied responses can have a significant impact down the road.
Some people respond in a healthy way and emerge stronger, while others are overwhelmed by the challenge. What accounts for the difference in our response is our view of our Heavenly Father, God. If we see Him as our loving Father, we'll understand He has the best possible plan for our life. But if we consider Him an obstruction to the goals we've set for ourselves or think He's only looking to punish us, we could miss out on blessings.
Storms are unavoidable in life (John 16:33). When one comes our way, the wisest thing we can do is to cry out to Jesus and trust Him to see us through whatever comes our way.
Life storms are inevitable, often serving to break, rebuild, and strengthen us rather than just destroy. Key perspectives include, "Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path" and, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain".
“There is no way a person who has never experienced a serious storm in his life can be more mature and wiser than a person who has experienced many serious storms in his life!” ~ Mehmet Murat ildan
“Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.”
~ Job 38:1-3 NIV
