Take advantage and don't feel guilty
It's incredible weather here in North Queensland at the moment. Many of us will say "wow, it's such a beautiful day today" once, maybe twice, then forget about, and never take advantage of it. Humans are the most disconnected species to the rest of the living bodies on this planet. I'll say that again... Humans are the only living creatures that are progressively becoming more and more disconnected and isolated from any other living body on the planet. Disconnected from other animals, from plant life, and from the Earth itself. Humans have been taught that life is about work and money. We are the only living species that lives a life like this. Plants don't care about work and money, they care about food, water, sunlight, and growing and reproducing. Animals don't care about work and money, they care about food, water, play, their family. It' time to prioritise taking advantage of beautiful days. It's time to be alive with the rest of life. On days like this: - Be outdoors as often as you can, even if you are in the shade. Fresh air and natural light go a long way in making you calm and present - Be grounded as often as you can. Shoes off and on the natural ground - Do an outdoor activity like going for a walk, even if it's around the block. Get your eyes looking at the scenery around you as you walk, not just at the steps in front of you When you become more present and connected to "beautiful days", you will realise how simple it is to feel happy, calm, and content. Be Human, and enjoy a bloody good day. -Mat
Copper, Energy and You
A couple of years ago there was a period of time when I had a few patients in my clinic that were wearing copper bracelets. Their wrist was stained with a green, dirty looking ring around it. I thought it was pretty weird and I asked why they wore it. I had multiple responses, but the main one was they were told it was meant to help with healing, particularly arthritis. At the time, I thought it was a weird wives tale, but didn't disregard it, nor did i care to look deeper into it. A few years later, and after having written my book and dive into natural healing methods, I know drink from a copper cup and wear copper rings... Now i'm the weirdo. So, let's talk copper. I'm sure we all know copper is a great conductor of electricity, hence it's use in electrical wiring systems. Interestingly enough, our bodies are electromagnetic, and are also conductors of electricity. Ancient traditions valued copper highly: - The Egyptians regarded copper as a sacred metal associated with purification and healing, using it for drinking vessels, water storage, surgical instruments, wound dressing and temple rituals - In Ayurvedic (India) practice, a common tradition is to store water overnight in a copper vessel before drinking it the next morning, a practice known as Tamra Jal. Their beliefs are that copper supports digestion, balances body energies, aids detoxification and promotes vitality. - Chinese medicine used copper in ancient acupuncture tools and healing instruments. Many other cultures, and even spiritual traditions also highly value copper. What we do know about copper is: - an essential trace mineral - naturally antimicrobial - one of the best electrical conductors - required for enzymes involved in energy production, connective tissue formation and iron metabolism For generations, drinking water travelled through copper pipes in our homes. Was this simply because copper was durable and easy to work with? Probably. But some people also believe trace amounts of copper entering the water contributed to health. Copper is an essential mineral involved in energy production, connective tissue formation, iron metabolism and antioxidant defence. Our bodies require only tiny amounts—but they do require it. Today, modern homes use PEX (plastic) piping to run water, supposedly just because it's cheaper.
Queensland Seasonal Fruit and Vegetable Guide
Eating seasonally means choosing foods that are naturally being harvested in your region at that time of year. This usually means fresher produce, better flavour, greater availability and often a lower price. Queensland is a large state, so exact harvest periods vary between Far North Queensland, Central Queensland and South-East Queensland. This table is a general guide for tropical and subtropical Queensland. Below is a list for quick reference. There is also an attached PDF for you to save and print. Let’s talk food
By far, one of the most important aspects of being a healthy and thriving human being is the food we eat. We are what we eat…right? For most people today, food seems to be an unimportant afterthought. Something that has to be consumed simply because we feel the sense of hunger. Doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it satisfies that feeling. And yet here we are; overweight, sick, mentally ill, physical f#cked. And the mainstream solution – medications, vaccines and surgeries. Personally, I don’t think eating healthy is a difficult thing to do; Meat, Fruit, Veg. Pretty straight forward i think. However, most of us have been brought up with many skewed variations of this. So I want to keep this short, to the point, and lay out what I believe should be a basic foundation of healthy eating. Then I would love to hear opinions and thoughts from you all. This is what I would consider to be a basic HEALTHY way of eating: - Meat, fruit, veg - No sauces, no bread, no pasta (unless you can hand make with organic produce) - No processed foods, nothing you wouldn’t find at a butcher or fruit and veg shop - One to two “meals” a day consisting of meat and veg - Fruit for picking throughout the day That’s it… Keep in mind this is not for any particular goal (performance, weightloss), this is purely what I consider should be a standard way of eating. From this basic framework, things can be adjusted to suit various goals. I think this is pretty straightforward. However, for many people this is quiet complicated. And I get it, if you were brought up being fed shit all the time, this will seem weird. But this is why Human Again exists. To make normal, normal again. Beyond these basics, is where we get into “food is medicine”. Where we use specific herbs or eating techniques like fasting or juicing, to produce desired health results. But as basic as it can be, just eat real food. Have a bloody good day, Be Human.
