House of Suraj is a space for healthy escapism — a place to step out of the noise and back into the body. Rooted in queer dance cultures and Global Majority experiences, we use movement as a tool for wellbeing, creative expression, joy, and collective care.
We honour dance as more than performance; it is memory, freedom, and connection. Here, community comes before competition, and the dance floor remains a place to breathe, belong, and grow together.
Founded by Kumari Suraj, a globally recognised non-binary multi-disciplinary artist and movement educator, House of Suraj is shaped by over two decades of international teaching and cultural leadership. Widely regarded as a modern blueprint of Waacking, Kumari has trained and mentored artists across more than 40 countries, helping build and sustain queer dance ecosystems worldwide. Their approach centres embodiment, integrity, and care ensuring dance remains both a living culture and a sustainable practice.
