But did you know God actually warned Cain BEFORE he murdered his brother? Cain and Abel are brothers. 🌾 Cain is a farmer. 🐑 Abel is a shepherd. One day, they both bring an offering to God. Cain brings some of the crops he's grown. Abel brings the firstborn of his flock and the fat portions. And here's where things get interesting... God accepts Abel and his offering, but He doesn't accept Cain and his offering. And you can almost see where this story is heading. Two brothers standing before God. One brother's offering is accepted. The other's isn't. And instead of Cain examining why his offering wasn't accepted, jealousy and anger begin to take over. Now, something important to understand here. God wasn't rejecting Cain simply because he brought crops. Later in the Bible, God actually commands grain offerings. And Hebrews 11:4 tells us that Abel offered his sacrifice by faith. So this wasn't simply about WHAT they brought. It was about the faith and heart behind the offering. But Cain doesn't respond by trying to make things right. He gets ANGRY. The Bible says his countenance fell. Basically, you could see the anger all over his face. And this is the part that caught my attention. God actually comes to Cain and warns him! Genesis 4:7 says: "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door." BRO. 🤯 Cain hasn't murdered anybody yet. Abel is still alive. And God is basically telling Cain: You still have a choice! Sin is lying at your door. Picture a wild animal crouching outside your house, waiting for the opportunity to attack. That's the picture God gives Cain. And God tells him he must rule over it. But what does Cain do? He ignores the warning. He goes into the field with his own brother. And he KILLS him. Then God comes to Cain and asks: "Where is Abel thy brother?" And Cain responds: "I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?" He just murdered his own brother, and now he's denying that he even knows where Abel is.
