- Know and Honor Thyself
The most devastating thing that can happen to a person is that they somehow come to think negatively of themselves, which is the greatest barrier to achievement or success. Of all the judgments we encounter during life, the most truly important judgment is the one we pass upon our self.
The greatest barrier to our experiencing love is the secret fear that we are unlovable or not enough. Knowing and honoring ourselves appropriately is perhaps the most important task of consciousness, because consciousness assists us in knowing that which truly exists, to the best of our ability.
To honor reality by discerning a meaningful and grateful perspective of what exists is to honor consciousness. To honor your consciousness, feelings and actions is to honor your self.
Below is a small list of behaviors that I think most people would agree, reflect positive self-esteem, respect and honor.
Consider the following: Are you this kind of naturally honoring person?
- A person who exudes an attitude of openness to and curiosity about new ideas, new possibilities and new experiences.
- A person who’s words and movements have a quality of ease, spontaneity or grace.
- A person whose face, manner of speaking and movement reflect a joy in being alive, enjoying the simple pleasure of just being here now.
- A person who is able to talk to others about their accomplishments and challenges honestly and directly.
- A person who is comfortable in giving and receiving affection, appreciation and compliments with ease and sincerity.
- A person who is able to see, appreciate and enjoy the humorous side of themselves, others and life.
- A person who is usually open to criticism and generally comfortable with seeing his or her own mistakes and apologizing when needed.
- A person who is comfortable with clear and assertive (not belligerent or mean) behavior and appropriate boundaries.
- A person who displays a natural harmony between what they say and do and harmony between how he or she looks, moves and sounds.
- A person who is capable of preserving a quality of harmony and dignity while under stress.
- A person who looks for opportunities to deeply appreciate and honor others in the middle of everyday life. One who is secure enough to make others look good and love yourself for it.
- A person who realizes that they are not here to live up to other peoples expectations and vise versa, so they honor everyone for the joy and health of it!
