Friday Fireworks - Safe and Calm Companion Checklist
As many of us are already into storm season, and for us in North America, we will soon find the loud bursts of fireworks as we celebrate our countries independence.
It may be fun and exciting for us, but for many animals, loud noises are much more than an inconvenience. Their nervous system can become overwhelmed long before we even realize they're feeling anxious.
The good news is that there are many gentle ways we can help, but the sooner we start to implement these tools and techniques the more support it will give to our companions when they really need it.
Creating a safe space, preparing ahead of time, supporting their nervous system, and staying calm ourselves can make a significant difference. While every animal is unique, a thoughtful plan before storm season often helps far more than reacting once the fear has already begun.
I've updated my Safe and Calm Companion Checklist to include:
🐾 Creating a calming safe space
🐾 Preparing before storms and fireworks
🐾 Sound and visual buffering
🐾 Safe essential oil guidelines
🐾 ThunderShirts and calming wraps
🐾 Nervous system support
🐾 Outdoor safety reminders
🐾 When it's time to involve your veterinarian
Remember, this isn't about "fixing" fear—it's about helping our companions feel safe.
I'd love to hear what you have tried and what works for you companion.
💭 Reflection Question:
Has your animal ever struggled with thunderstorms or fireworks?
What has helped them feel the safest?
