It’s easy to overlook red flags and make excuses: It was just one time. I’m not perfect either. It’s better than before. But personal development requires standards, not just boundaries. Boundaries say “this is where I stop” standards say “this is what I deserve.”
When you make excuses for bad behavior, you teach others that your self-respect is negotiable. Let people lose access to you if they can’t value what you offer. That’s not punishment it’s protection.
