On Thursday, I stood on a stage I never imagined I’d return to — the stage at my old high school. The last time I walked those corridors, I was a teenager with big dreams and very little confidence. I had no idea that life would take me on the journey it did.
I spoke to the students about dreams, detours, and the way life has a funny way of leading you back to what’s truly meant for you.
I shared the story of telling my school careers advisor that I wanted to be a firefighter, and being told, “Maybe something more suitable for a girl.” And I shared the truth I didn’t know then:
👉 Other people’s limitations don’t have to become your limitations.
I celebrated the students who got the results they hoped for…And I spoke directly to the ones who didn’t — reminding them that a result is just a moment, not a destiny.
I told them about my 2017 head injury, how it forced me to leave my corporate job, and how exactly one year to the day later…I received my firefighter contract. A full-circle moment. A reset. A reminder that alignment always finds you.
And standing there in front of those students, sharing the chapters of my story I once felt ashamed of, I realised:
✨ We never know who needs to hear our journey.✨ We never know who it will inspire to choose courage over fear.✨ And we never know whose future we are helping shape, simply by showing what’s possible.
It was an honour — and a reminder of why I do the work I do here in this community.
If you take anything from this today, let it be this:
You are never behind. You are becoming. And the path meant for you will always find its way back. 💛
