Friday Rotor roundup
Happy Friyay! Everyone! It’s nearing the end of heli ski season but it doesn’t quite feel like spring just yet! At least not where I am! Let’s remember to stay on our A game out there and not fall victim to complacency! There’s still a lot of hazards out there that could reach up and grab ya unexpectedly! When it’s been dumping snow and windy the ski landings can change quite a bit! Make sure to do your reccee and have a good look to see if there’s enough tail clearance, rotor clearance etc… most of the flags where I am currently have been buried so you need to find some reference or drop your passengers and go put skid marks in on a clear day! It’s also the time of year where lots of storm systems are rolling through packing a punch! Can get really windy really quick! If you have to land and wait it out that’s better than fighting through weather you’d rather not be in! Lastly there’s a lot of the white stuff out there currently! Be sure of your approaches, once you’ve set up your approach and your committed try n make sure you have an out if things go sideways! Once your on your final path to the spot stay committed and ride it in to the flags! Trust your gut and if your spidy senses are tingling blow off the landing before your committed on final and go check out another spot! Happy Friyay everybody! Have a great day and fly safe!!!

Sunday Rotor roundup
Happy Sunday funday everyone!!! Today let’s talk about avalanche risk! She’s high risk out there in many parts of BC still! Be cautious out there with your skiers and snowboarders but also choose wisely where you park your machine while waiting for ski guests!!! It sometimes slips our minds that we may be in the path of an avalanche run off. Be careful and mindful when choosing a spot to sit especially if you’re shutting down. Also important to find a spot with good reference as many of these waiting spots are white, white, white!!!! Take your time and blow the snow off the landing if you can before you settle in! Also good practice to keep a broken flag in your machine to place if your planning on coming back to that spot. Have a great day and fly safe out there!

Sunday Rotor roundup
Happy Sunday Funday everyone!!! The weather is starting to warm up in the Okanagan Valley!!! It’s always a pleasure flying in fair weather but the spring time storms are still out there rolling through! The benefit being these storms tend to rip through and the fair weather continues! Don’t be afraid to wait it out as the storm passes. Most of these systems usually only last for about 15 Mins or so… again just a friendly reminder especially if your heli skiin to move on to a different run or just wait out the cycle. Don’t push if you don’t have to! Have a great day and fly safe everyone! Don’t forget to send in those pics on the job site!

Saturday Rotor roundup
Today let’s talk about rotor wash… sometimes we can forget just how much rotor wash even smaller machines can generate. Always good practice to be mindful of your surroundings and make sure your passengers or crew are well briefed for approach and departure of your aircraft! It doesn’t take much for a loose bag, or a hat to blow off and get sucked into the engine or rotor system or tail rotor. Keep your Witt’s about you and always be cautious on approach or just prior to lifting to make sure the area is clear of debris! Like always fly safe and have fun out there!!!
