Tonight's Inquiry: the clinical safety standards consultation.
I want to spend the session on something practical rather than theoretical. The standards that govern safety in digital systems are open for consultation, and I'd rather this community responded to it properly than watched it pass. Here's what I've noticed over thirty years. Clinicians tend to assume a consultation wants polished policy language, so they don't respond. What it actually wants is the thing you'd say in a corridor: the alert everyone silently overrides, the workaround that quietly became standard practice, the moment a system did exactly what it was designed to do and it still wasn't safe. That detail cannot be produced from a desk. It only comes from you. So bring one. A real example, however small or awkward. We'll look at what the consultation is asking, work out where clinical evidence carries the most weight, and I'll show you how to structure a response so it gets read. If you can't make it live, drop your example in the comments and I'll pick it up in the session. 20:00 tonight.
AI and Cyber Security
With the recent news headline of OpenAI being responsible for a cyber attack on an AI startup company. I'm interested to know if people think we're having the right (if any) conversations about the impact or consideration of cyber security as we bring in AI tech companies into healthcare and opening up access to patient data. We seem to be very vocal about people and companies (e.g. palantir, child crocodile attack) having access to healthcare data but I don't feel I'm hearing the same noise about AI having access. Do we have the right guardrails in place? Are we sure we know exactly what those guardrails need to be? How strong are those guardrails?
Intro
Hi Im Mohamed Hersi a doctor who recently graduated from Usmf. Thanks for the invitation and I am hoping to learn a lot about health tech from the esteemed members.
Hello everyone 👋🏻
Hi, I’m Liz. I’m an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in primary care and Clinical Safety Officer for the Mid and South Essex Shared Care Record. Lovely to meet you Dione at Digital Summer schools. Very interested in AI ethics as I think we’re all trying to understand where things are headed. It very much feels like we’re just ahead of another technological revolution (like 1999 pre Y2K) - showing my age there 😂
Improving HTEC
We're building HTEC together, not just for you to use. This is the space for that. Something clunky on the platform, a session that didn't land, an idea for a resource you wish existed, post it here. Be specific. "The live sessions are too long" helps us more than "make it better." And don't soften the criticism. We'd rather hear it than lose you quietly. We're reading every post here. When we act on something, we'll come back and tell you. What's the first thing you'd change?
