Halal Investing Starter Course (Free)
Halal Investing Starter Course (Free)
A five-module path from zero to a written plan. 1. What “halal investing” means (riba, haram business, gharar) — and that buying a share is ownership, not a fatwa-by-ticker. 2. How to screen: the fund’s own document first. Apps are hints. Denominators differ. See also the prospectus course (SPUS worked example). 3. Zakat on investments: map of the disagreement, not a fake ijma. The dedicated zakat course goes deeper (nisab from NZF, 9:60 as recipients). 4. Building a first portfolio: time horizon, account type, a few funds — check live fees on the KID/factsheet, not a remembered TER. 5. FIRE as a secular planning sketch with sukuk/gold instead of conventional bonds. The 4% rule is not Shariah. It is a planning heuristic. Confirm numbers before you retire on them. Free. No upsell. If a module states a ratio, it names a document or it tells you we do not know.

Zakat on investments
Zakat on investments
Zakat on cash and investments, taught without fake certainty. Module 1: NZF’s public nisab page (typically 2.5%; gold and silver nisab updated daily; two weight opinions). Re-check the day you pay. Module 2: Qur’an 9:60 — who receives zakat. That ayah is not the 2.5% rate. Module 3: Shares and ETFs — full market value vs asset-ratio vs dividends. Different views. No invented Hanbali one-liner. Module 4: Retirement accounts. The fight is access. A US answer does not automatically move to a UK SIPP. Use the Zakat sheet in the member workbook. This is a map. It is not a fatwa.

How to read a halal ETF prospectus
How to read a halal ETF prospectus
This course teaches you to read a Shariah-equity ETF the way a lawyer reads a contract: from the prospectus, not from the homepage. We use one worked example — SPUS (SP Funds S&P 500 Sharia Industry Exclusions ETF) — because we opened the statutory prospectus dated 30 March 2026. That PDF is the source. Marketing copy is not. You will learn: • The index is not the S&P 500. It is the S&P 500 Shariah Industry Exclusions Index (S&P 500 Shariah names, then three sub-industries dropped). • The two-layer screen in that document: prohibited businesses over 5% of revenue, then four financial ratios versus total assets (not market cap). • The other facts people guess: 240 names as of 28 Feb 2026, 0.45% expense ratio, monthly rebalance, cash earns nothing. • How to run the same interrogation on HLAL or any other ticker without stealing SPUS’s numbers. This is not a buy recommendation. It is literacy. If the PDF does not say it, we do not say it.
