Cold Moon Guide — December 4th, 2025
Tonight marks the completion of our final full moon cycle of the year. Astronomically, this Full Moon is known as the Cold Moon, the traditional name used by the Algonquin peoples and later adopted by the Maine Farmer’s Almanac to describe December’s full moon — the time when winter’s cold truly sets in. In 2025, this moon aligns with Gemini and reaches supermoon status because the Moon is closer to Earth in its orbit (perigee), appearing larger and brighter than average. NASA confirms that supermoons occur when the full moon coincides with this closer orbital point, creating heightened visual and energetic presence. This particular Cold Moon is rare: we will not see another one until 2042, due to the alignment of lunar phases, calendar cycles, and seasonal naming conventions. It will also sit unusually high in the sky because the full moon near winter solstice reaches its maximum elevation — a phenomenon explained by the Moon’s declination cycle relative to Earth’s axial tilt. Many will miss it, not because it isn’t present, but because it will be positioned at an angle that is not evenly visible across regions. So why does this matter? Because symbolically and psychologically — and yes, historically — the final full moon of the year serves as a ritual checkpoint. Cultures across the world have used this moon to mark release, closure, and preparation for spiritual renewal. Jungian analysts also note that collective rituals of release help the psyche resolve unfinished emotional material and create space for individuation. Tonight is our last energetic window of 2025 to consciously release, let go, and alchemize it’s all, let love, light, and peace be your everlasting guide. This is your invitation to face this moon — or the thought of her — and release: - people - places - situations - emotional residues - blockages - connections - forces - and all energetic signatures that no longer serve your highest and greatest good, nor the good of all creation.
