Chop & Drop time!
I seeded a cover crop last fall and have started the chop & drop phase. I'm getting my son to do most of it with the line trimmer since I don't have the energy to do it all. The picture is one of the beds. The cover crop did really well, so I'll have lots of great stuff in the bed once it's all chopped. I'll be covering it with compost then mulch. And, yes, I plan on trimming the prickly pear cactus. I'm hoping to stay ahead of the new pads as they try to grow so that it won't get huge again too quickly. That thing is 6 years old and started from 5 single pads that my husband and daughter collected from a yard that was slated to become part of a new interstate loop around Raleigh. It just goes to show you that not all cacti shrivel up and die with lots of rain!
