If you’re teaching 4th grade and thinking,
“They can read the words… but they don’t really get the text,”you’re in the right place.
I’m a longtime reading teacher (3-4th) and mentor who specializes in helping 4th graders move from word callers to real thinkers—especially with complex, grade-level texts that make them shut down, guess, or become frustrated readers.
This community is for teachers, tutors, and homeschoolers who are:
- Struggling to get students to activate metacognition while reading.
- Unsure how to scaffold without giving too much support.
- Feeling defeated by low test scores
Inside, we’ll focus on practical support, not theory:
- Simple, repeatable routines you can plug into any complex text
- Graphic organizers and question stems that actually get kids talking and writing
- Discuss real student responses: what they show, and what to do next
My goal is simple:Help you feel calmer, clearer, and more confident teaching 4th graders how to critically read complex texts.
