Question for fellow community hosts: how do you decide who to approve?
Because I talk openly about sex and relationships, I hold a pretty high bar for who I let into my community. Not in a gatekeeping way. In a care way.
I’ve learned that when the topic is vulnerable, intimate, and personal, psychological safety matters more than volume. I want people to be able to ask real questions without getting shut down by bravado, posturing, or performative β€œedginess.” I’ve also noticed that insecurity often shows up as brash talk, especially around sex.
So I’m curious how others handle this.
If someone wants to join your community and it feels like a mismatch, do you:
decline or delete without follow up
check in and clearly name the behavioral expectations of the space
redirect them to content so they can learn the tone first
Or something else entirely?
I’m especially interested in hearing how you balance inclusivity with maintaining a respectful, practice based space. Thank you in advance. I’m always learning how to lead these rooms well.
