How I get my brain to stay the course ๐Ÿง
If you're anything like me, you've struggled to pick one business and stick with it.
But the ONE thing that allowed me to succeed as an entrepreneur is
Even when things get boring, tedious, or downright frustrating. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
Even when it seems impossible. ๐Ÿ˜ก
Even when you really want to quit. โŒ
The problem? My ADHD brain craves novelty. Excitement. Adventure.
And sticking to one thing meant that at times it was boring, tedious, and overwhelming. The shiny objects got shinier and shinier till they felt impossible to resist.
As someone who started five different businesses before I found one I could stick to, I know all too well how hard it is to keep my crazy brain on track.
Dropshipping from China. Selling crafts on Etsy. Social media marketing services. Promotional products. I tried a lot of things...
Sound familiar? ๐Ÿค”
But finally, after years of trial and error, I figured out a way that worked for me:
I built a business that aligns with my passions, is intrinsically motivating, and has enough novelty to keep things interesting over a long period of time.
And when things inevitably got difficult or boring?
I had a system of accountability to keep me going when my own willpower wasn't strong enough. Someone to say, "Hey, it doesn't look like this aligns with what you said you want. Are you SURE?"
Unfortunately, these accountability systems lacked one crucial element for me...
Compassion for how my brain works.
My business coach was great at saying, "No! Don't do that thing, stick to what you said."
But they didn't give me enough flexibility to pivot in a way that's aligned, while still staying the course. And they discredited the power of my ADHD brain with an obsession.
That was the secret; I found business success when I got ๐™ค๐™—๐™จ๐™š๐™จ๐™จ๐™š๐™™.
The more obsessed I became with my goals, the easier it was to hyperfocus on them long enough to make them work.
Obsession is how I built a business that earned $30-50k per month passively.
Obsession is how we got the Skool โญ and became a top 1% community. (Plus accountability from this community!!)
Obsession is how I went from a 115 lb stick-figure man to 165 lb ๐Ÿ’ช in a year.
When I look back at my life's pivotal moments, the things that triggered my obsession were:
โžค Being so fed up with my job & life that I was willing to build a successful business or die trying
โžค Big, hairy, audacious goals that excited and scared me
โžค Re-committing to my goals daily through self-reflection and journaling
โžค Having a community of people backing me up and cheering me on
โžค Making big investments in myself (further enhancing my belief in the outcome)
When I took actions that reinforced to my brain and the universe what I wanted, the world moved to make it happen.
And the more the world moved, the more interesting things became... helping to trigger that obsession even further and keep my ADHD brain locked in.
All I needed was a clear vision, a business that could evolve with my interests, and the right kind of accountability & coaching to stick to things while allowing flexibility.
So what's my ADHD blueprint for sticking to one business long enough to win?
Commit to your goal. Get obsessed. Make your current business more interesting and aligned rather than chasing the shiny objects. And lean on this community!!
Community is the glue that binds us and lifts us up when things get tough. And I'm beyond grateful for the Goosify community for that reason!!!
