The Rescue Company is not a church. It is not a nonprofit. It is not a program. It is a company of
people who have been through something, and who refuse to let anyone else go through it
alone. There is a man sitting in a VFW hall right now who has not slept through the night in four years. He drinks enough to get close, but not enough to make it stop. He goes to the meetings his wife asks him to go to, sits in the back, and leaves before anyone can ask him how he is doing. He
has heard the word “God” enough times in enough contexts that it no longer means anything to
him. He is not angry about that. He is just tired.
He is not looking for a program. He has been through programs. He is not looking for a church.
He tried that. He is looking for something he cannot name, because the thing he is looking for is a person who will sit down next to him, order a coffee, and not leave when things get complicated.
That is where The Rescue Company begins.
That is the model. It is simple. It is not easy.
