I lost (and found) my mobile/cell phone in Portugal (a thread)
Lost my phone last Sunday morning and quite liked the freedom. UNTIL I realised the full consequences!
Like:
  • Two-factor identification would be impossible
  • No camera
  • No livestreaming device
On the upside
  • Whatsapp desktop continued to work
  • It was locked with code/biometrics
Here's what I did...
  1. Visited local GNR to see if phone had been handed in
  2. Then went to mobile service provide (Vodafone in this case) next day, when certain it was lost.
  3. Was given a new SIM in store, and instructions for deactivation and transfer of old number to new sim (see pic)
  4. Tried to deactivate phone at a cafe, pressing random numbers, and hoping for the best, when facing some VERY FAST Portuguese instructions. (There was a "Press 9 for English" option, which didn't work on first call)
  5. Tried again at home, with better luck
  6. Crireria required are detailed and include: NIF, post code, amount of last bill and date paid (so logged in to Vodafone simultaneously). English option worked, and phone was deactivated.
  7. Had a brainwave to look on social media, to see phone had been found!
  8. Regretted deactivating phone BEFORE looking on social media
  9. Went to collect phone, and had a beer with inn-keepers to celebrate!
  10. Haven't transferred to new SIM yet, will update later...
