I'm from Canada and I live In one of the big cities but not the biggest. It's quite expensive in Calgary Alberta, prices of housing, gas and clothing is high, highest ever since I've been am adult. Not a lot of jobs around so budgets are low! Being a personal chef and housekeeper I'm definitely not finding the work I use to. People are faced with choices about their food budgets more then ever.
I'm also a single mother currently one kid left at home and my food budget is about the cost of when I had 3 kids at home for just him 😔
Right now I have a budget of $150 every 2 weeks. It's super low I know but I'm around the poverty level or bow for income so I have to spend very little so that I can pay the extremely high rents and utilities it actually takes 75% of what I nake.
So with $150 every 2 weeks I need to make my son breakfasts lunch snacks and dinners. Here is my quick list
2 packs of proteins (chicken thighs, ground beef)
Pack of peppers $$$ very expensive by the way $8 for a pack of 4 -6
2 cans of tomatoes
Oil
Milk butter eggs
Carrots cucumbers
Garlic
Can of beans or dried, small soy sauce
Maybe honey or brown sugar
One new spice
Pack of chocolate chips
Bag of potatoes
That's about all you can get on $150! And all small sizes as $150!is a low budget for around here!
Now it's up to me to make 7 meals, bread cookie muffins and hopefully make it taste good 😊
I would make homemade buns
Loaf of toast bread and sandwiche bread
Vanilla muffins and chocolate chip cookies
Hamburgers, meatballs and spaghetti sauce and a small portion for lunch taco wraps
Scalloped potatoes and freezer French fries.
Fresh veggie salad with homemade dressing ( Cesar and Italian)
Spice up the thoughts and air fry or bake em for lunch and dinner so many yummy recipes for chicken thighs very satisfying protein for versatile recipes for families!
And with the little but if dollars left I hit the dollar store, the best grocery store out there for the poor folk Dollarama!
What's your favorite low budget store in your courry?
