I often get asked for tips, tricks, or some kind of secret formula for learning guitar.
Youâll see plenty of things online promising fast results or secret methods â but honestly, thatâs mostly just marketing hype.
In my experience after many years of teaching guitar, it really comes down to two simple things.
1ď¸âŁ Consistent Practice
This one is a bit boring⌠but it works.
The key isnât huge marathon practice sessions once in a while â itâs short, regular practice over time.
Iâm a big believer in âlittle and often.â
If you can find 20 minutes to practice, 3â5 times a week, and stick with that consistently, youâll be amazed at the progress you make over a few months.
Small sessions done regularly beat occasional long sessions every time.
2ď¸âŁ Playing Material At The Right Level
This might actually be even more important.
If youâve tried learning fingerstyle before, youâll know it can feel really difficult, even if you can already strum a few chords.
The problem is that most fingerstyle arrangements online are written at a very advanced level.
Thatâs why I try to create my arrangements at different difficulty levels:
- Full Version â the complete arrangement
- Easy Version â simplified but still musical
- Very Easy Tabs â playing one note at a time (great for beginners)
Youâll find all of these inside the Classroom tab.
If you try one of my songs and feel stuck, donât get discouraged â just drop down a level.
Youâre far more likely to stay motivated and practice consistently when you can feel yourself improving.
So⌠what are you waiting for?
đ¸ Time to pick up the guitar and do some practicing!
