Money is such a weird thing
I caught myself saying
“I can’t afford that” the other day.
And it didn’t feel true.
Because I could afford it.
I just didn’t want to spend money on it.
That’s different.
“I can’t afford it” feels heavy.
Closed.
Like there’s nothing I can do.
But “that’s not a priority right now”…
feels honest.
And strangely… lighter.
It puts me back in the driver’s seat.
I think a lot of us use “I can’t afford it”
when what we really mean is:
• I’m choosing something else
• I’m not ready to spend on that
• I don’t value that enough right now
And there’s no shame in that.
But the words we use matter.
One keeps you stuck.
The other reminds you that you’re choosing.
And that’s where your power is.
Curious…
What’s something you’ve told yourself you “can’t afford”…that might actually just not be a priority right now? 👇
