A Target A1c ≠ Stable Blood Sugar
A1c targets exist for a reason — they reduce risk at a population level.
An A1c under 7 is associated with:
  • Fewer complications from chronic hyperglycemia
  • Less aggressive medication dosing that can cause dangerous lows
But that number does not tell the full story.
A1c is an average.Averages hide variability.
You can meet a target A1c and still experience:
  • Significant post-meal spikes
  • Wide glucose swings
  • Stress on blood vessels and nerves
True blood sugar control comes from addressing the drivers of those swings — not just lowering the average.
When lifestyle inputs are individualized and corrected, both extremes improve:
  • High blood sugar decreases
  • The need for aggressive medication correction decreases
That’s when control becomes sustainable.
