Quick audit. Think about the last skill you tried to learn, whether it’s guitar, Spanish, coding, or a new way of studying Scripture. How many hours did you spend watching, reading, and taking notes, and how many did you spend actually doing it badly?
Most ambitious people land around ten to one. Another tutorial feels safe because nobody can grade you. Twenty minutes of broken Spanish with a real person will teach you more than a month of videos, and it will also be embarrassing. That embarrassment is the price of learning it.
This week, try one to one. Every hour you spend taking something in, spend an hour putting it out. Speak it, play it, write it, build it, or teach it to someone who knows less than you.
What’s the one skill you’ve been studying the longest without really using?
