I realised that I should introduce myself more fully so that you have a sense of the host and facilitator here! So here goes...
I'm British by birth and currently a New Mexico-based writer, artist, and creative coach helping others find belonging through story, landscape, and art. That's my main motivation...
As a creative coach, author and artist based in rural New Mexico, I explore how belonging and creativity intersect through stories, workshops, and the visual. Sometimes belonging isn’t about the place welcoming us in but it’s about showing up anyway. About learning the shape of the wind, the bite of the cold, the way the dogs press close at night. If we stay long enough, we can understand how we can belong anywhere. How do I know that? From living a nomadic life since being a teenager in small town England, I've lived in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala and the States, always finding community.
I'm the author of Stay, G’Dog, Hidden, When No One’s Looking, Lucky Shot, and Lucky Find, as well as her award winning travelogue, Van Life. My shorter work has been published in Los Angeles Review, Hunger Mountain, Santa Fe Writers Project, and others. The awards include winning the NM/AZ Book Awards for my fiction, Honorable Mention for the Quill Prize (Red Hen Press) and more recently long-listed with the Santa Fe Writers Project. In my twenties, I was a documentary photographer in London with a few shows and my work then was a combination of personal experiences in text to complement the images of life in East London in the Nineties. Since then I have taken odds and ends of classes and workshops on all kinds of creative outlets and currently my love is for painting abstracts, of animals and landscapes, getting in a few art markets but mostly selling online and by word of mouth. I'm here to learn from you too so please help me expand my understanding of different skills, art and visual odds and ends we can all play with.
My motivation to hosting this group on Skool is to bring together my love of creativity and community, with the core values that motivate my life: Explore, Create, Share. I've been doing similar outreach and workshops for years now and want to bring all those skills and resources into one place to reach a wider audience and get you excited to expand your own ways of playing and expressing ideas and observations.
I'm here to help.
