A mindful moment
Being a part-time teacher, I start a little later on Fridays, so if I have the time, I grab a quick coffee from one of the cafes (bars) across the road from school.
This morning, 2 mothers from one of my classes were there, however I did not notice them until I was leaving. After exchanging some words (in my broken Italian), they left. I then discovered as I went to pay, that they had already quietly paid for my coffee.
Over my 20+ years of teaching, I’ve never had a moment like this, but it just goes to show that this job is fundamentally about cultivating and nurturing strong relationships - not only with students but the entire community.
A lovely way to feel appreciated.
