REST
Sometimes rest is not something we schedule.
Sometimes the body schedules it for us.
This is my third day adjusting my normal activities around yellow jacket stings.
The first day was pain.
The next day was swelling, heat, and fatigue.
Now the itching has arrived.
Each phase has asked for something slightly different, but the message has stayed the same:
Pay attention.
Rest, in moments like this, is not doing nothing.
It is rearranging.
Moving plans.
Reducing output.
Using ice.
Taking medicine when needed.
Choosing not to push simply because something was already on the calendar.
The body becomes part of the information.
And when that information changes, the plan can change too.
There is a difference between abandoning your responsibilities and responding responsibly to what your body is telling you.
Sometimes rest looks like sleep.
Sometimes it looks like sitting still.
And sometimes it looks like rebuilding the day around what your body can actually hold.
Rest can be the willingness to let the schedule become flexible when the body needs care.
