THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
This was it.
I came to my first New York Salsa Congress 2003 still dancing on1. That same weekend, I learned how to dance on2 social dancing. My train of thought was simple: if on1 is 1-2-3 / 5-6-7… then on2 must be 2-3-4 / 6-7-8.
But this performance… this was the moment.
The Eddie Torres dancers came out and absolutely killed it.
And then—boom—he walked out with his wife, Maria.
The Mambo King himself.
Little did I know that he would become my mentor, and I would become his biggest fan until this very day.
The moment I saw my maestro dancing, I fell in love with mambo.
I was crying in the middle of the show and I didn’t even know why.
I made myself a promise:
In 10 years, I will be dancing alongside him.
Four months later, my dream came true.
I became an Eddie Torres dancer.
And in that moment, I realized something important:
We must dream big.
If you can see it, you can do it.
The “how” is not important — the goal is.
