Ideal BMI and Body Fat Percentage for Amateur Players
Hey everyone!
We’ve talked about how body composition impacts football performance, but what about amateur players? Whether you’re a youth athlete, a high school player, or someone training for fun and competition, maintaining a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index) and body fat percentage is still important.
For amateur soccer players:
• BMI should generally fall between 18.5 and 24.9 (healthy range for most athletes).
• Body fat percentage should be around 10-18% for men and 18-24% for women.
Of course, BMI doesn’t account for muscle mass, so body fat percentage is a more accurate indicator of fitness.
Here are some questions to think about:
1. Why do you think amateur players should monitor their body composition?
2. What are some simple ways to track and manage BMI and body fat?
3. How does carrying excess body fat or being underweight affect performance?
Let’s discuss! Share your thoughts, questions, or experiences.
