23 Morning Arrival Questions for ECE Educators
Do you find yourself asking children the same question every morning? “How are you?” “Did you have a good morning?” 😊 And then… sometimes you’re not sure what to ask next — especially when English isn’t your first language. So I’ve put together 23 Morning Arrival Questions for ECE Educators that you can actually use with children. The questions are organised into five areas: 💛 Feelings & Wellbeing 🏡 Home & Everyday Life 👀 Notice & Observe 🌱 Today’s Plans ✨ Imagine & Create You don’t need to ask lots of questions. Choose ONE, give the child time to think, listen to their answer, and let the conversation grow from there. 🌱 Download the FREE resource below and keep it somewhere handy for your morning arrivals. I hope it helps you feel a little more confident starting meaningful conversations with children in English. 💛

Stuck for What to Ask? Try These 5 Talk Moves
🌱 Talk Moves – Palm Cards for Educators Sometimes we know what we want to ask children, but finding the right words in English in the moment isn’t always easy. I created these Talk Moves Palm Cards to give educators simple, practical prompts they can use during Group Time and everyday interactions with children. The cards focus on five simple ways to extend children’s thinking and language: NOTICE • PREDICT • CHOOSE • EXTEND • CONNECT You don’t need to use them all at once. Even one good question, followed by enough wait time, can turn a simple activity into a meaningful conversation. These cards can be especially helpful if English is your second language and you want to feel more confident asking open-ended questions and extending children’s responses. 💡 How to use them: Print them on A4 card (200–250 gsm), cut them out, and keep them somewhere easy to reach. You can carry them with you or have them nearby during Group Time until the prompts start to come naturally. I hope these little cards make your everyday conversations with children a little easier — and a lot richer. 💛 Free resource for our community. Asking instead of Telling
Wouldn’t it be great if the children in our room listened to us well? How much easier would it be if they packed away the toys properly and followed our directions? If you use this tip well, it can almost feel like magic when that starts to happen. I’ve seen this work many times over my 30 years working in the field. Recently, another member I spoke with tried it too and was amazed at how well it worked. Please give it a try, and I’d really appreciate it if you could leave a comment and let me know how it goes!
