What is the coaches' main role?
A coach has several roles on the field including, but not limited to the following:
  1. Put your players in a position to succeed
  2. Game strategy
  3. Practice Planner
  4. Travel Agent
  5. Event organizer
  6. Energy manager
  7. And sooo... much more
The main role, however, is one that often gets overlooked in the heat of the season. The coach is there to inspire. To inspire confidence in each of his/her players. To inspire confidence in the team. To inspire confidence on the field and off the field. To inspire confidence in their ability to lead, grow, learn and expand their knowledge and develop skills.
The coach also inspires the parents, and helps them to develop their confidence in their child. This is especially important as the parents see their kids everyday, with all their flaws, and through all their development and can sometimes get stuck in their beliefs about what they could do yesterday. The coach sees their players as what they "could" be or what they "will" be, and not what they were yesterday.
How are you inspiring your players/athletes/kids/teammates?
