John 8 - You Shall be Free Indeed ⛓️💥
Been studying Galatians pretty hard for a couple of weeks... It is now one of my favorite books of the Bible. I see a connection between John 8 and Galations:
You are not a slave but a son… The Son has made us free hallelujah! Because as He is, so are we in this world.
“They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:33-36
“Abraham is our father.”
… Yes, but who is your mama?
Hagar and Sarah are symbols of two covenants.
Hagar is a picture of the law and bondage.
Sarah is a picture of freedom from bondage and is the mother of us all…
“Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children— but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.”
Galatians 4:21-26
Hagar is a picture of the bondage of the law, the Jerusalem which now is.
Sarah is a picture of freedom by grace through faith, the heavenly Jerusalem above. Abraham saw it by faith.
“And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.”
John 8:23
We are children of Sarah, not Hagar… We are free indeed!
“Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.”
Galatians 4:28-31
Only those in Christ by grace through faith are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Galatians 3:16, 29
