How my service dog, electric wheelchair and I use a few of the facilities at my university
Limited finger-mobility Accessible PenBag
💭 Goal: Make a bag to hold my pens for schoolwork that I can open even with grip difficulties and finger pain. - How to close the bag: The stick is an unused plastic chopstick that's firm enough to hold strong but flexible enough to weave back and forth between the holes without much difficulty. One hand just needs to be able to grip the end of the stick and then you can guide the stick through each slot, and wiggle wiggle wiggle until the bag is secured. - Adjustable Ear Positionings! 🐰 Those little two strings with pull-tags you see hanging there from the ears are meant to adjust the curve of the ears! Just tug the string then adjust the ear to your liking (similar to that of how you might create a curve in a pipe cleaner, although none were used for this project). Current Planned Additions for Longevity of Bag: - swap out little circle pull-tags for adjusting ears to allow for a leaf, heart, star, or other shape of choice instead - a fabric lining - some embroidery around the slots so that they are firmer and thus easier to guide the stick through. First off, I know the tail is technically, anatomically on the wrong side but it's meant to balance the weight of the ears so that the bag can stay upright when empty (although it doesn't have that issue if I add a reinforced base layer at the bottom of the bag). But doesn't it look SO cute when you can see the tail and ears at the same time? I've attached a photo of the bag both with the tail and without. What do we think? Photo on left: - tail on front - ears are tucked during the stick weaving process to close the bag and not curved via the pull-tags Photo on right - no tail - ears are kept out during the stick weaving process to close the bag and the pull-tags have been pulled to curve the ears slightly In the comments, I'll share a sneak peak of a softer, bigger one I'm making with thicker ears meant to stay upright but still be adjustable via the pullstring. I can also share a video detailing how to close it if anyone's interested.
