BOOK - The Children of Ash and Elm
I referenced this book this week. It is by the far best historical book I've come across in my opinion because it encapsulates a larger picture of the people and practices of the Viking Age. By that I mean the inner landscape and cosmology we are exploring rather that simply archeological evidence (it's in there too) and interpretations of the myths and sagas.
And the writing itself is exceptional. It moves you swiftly through :)
