OpenAI just built a plugin that runs INSIDE Claude Code.

They didn't build a competing tool. They didn't try to poach users. They walked into Anthropic's house and said "let me help you work." 🏠

This is one of the wildest competitive moves I've seen in AI ~ and it tells you everything about where this market is headed.

OpenAI Ships Official Codex Plugin That Runs Inside Claude Code

OpenAI dropped codex-plugin-cc on GitHub ~ a plugin that lets developers call OpenAI's Codex agent directly from inside Claude Code. Not a separate app. Not a browser tool. It literally runs inside your Claude Code workflow like it belongs there. 🔥

Three skills come with it: /codex: review scans your uncommitted code and gives you a clean code review. /codex: adversarial-review goes harder ~ it challenges your design decisions, tests your assumptions, and asks if you took the lazy route. And /codex: rescue lets Codex take over a stuck task in the background while you keep working in Claude Code. 💪🏾

Setup is simple ~ you need a ChatGPT subscription (free tier works) or an OpenAI API key, plus Node.js 18.18+. It uses whatever Codex installation is already on your machine. The repo already has 3,700+ GitHub stars in less than 48 hours. ⭐

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂: This is the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" play of 2026. Claude Code is doing an estimated $2.5 billion in annualized revenue and accounts for roughly 4% of all public GitHub commits. OpenAI looked at that and said "we're not gonna win by asking devs to switch ~ we're gonna meet them where they already are." For creators and solopreneurs building with AI? This means your tools are getting BETTER because the biggest companies in AI are now competing to serve you inside the SAME workspace. That's a W for everybody who builds. 🏆
