Has anyone successfully been able to re-upload their book via Word doc? I tried to keep the formatting the same but it ended with the Table of Contents being recognized as Chapter 1, and the real Chapter 1 being registered as Chapter 2. Any ways to fix this or is this just a little minor bug?

I have made around ten books with BN now, most of them Long, and found that no matter how much information I put into my outline, they would always come out to around 45k words, so I guess that is the default. They are good, and I like them but they always felt too short. I wanted them at least a third longer, at round about 60/65k. There was no room for the story to breathe, they just felt rushed and there would be plot inventions and continuity issues where I didn’t want them so there was a lot of editing needed. I thought I would try Epic length and see what happened. I didn’t want War and Peace, the Regency edition so I was a bit hesitant, but then I jumped in and was very pleased with the outcome. I had wondered if BN would put in a lot of filler, or whether there would be enough plot for an Epic length book, but what it produced was a story of 70k words, which is pretty much what i wanted, and it didn’t feel at all light on the plot. The pacing was good, it kept much more closely to the story and although it will need editing, there are far fewer inventions, inconsistencies and continuity errors. It feels as though the plot has more space to breathe and the story has more depth to it. The romantic relationship develops at a slower pace and is more involving. I would say it was a success and I shall use Epic from now on.

Industry statistics and research have found that only about 3% of people who start writing a book ever finish it. The other 97% start, stall, and leave their book on the shelf as an idea. In Auto mode we turned that upside down: about 85% of books started in Auto get finished. That's not a small improvement, that's the whole industry flipped on its head. But not in Sail mode. In Sail it's about 39%. And when people pasted a long story plan into Sail, only 28–30% of those books got finished, three times less than Auto. Dissatisfaction shows the same picture: refund requests are up to 2–3x higher in Sail than in Auto. So I dug into why, and the pattern was crystal clear: the more story text went into Sail, the fewer books were finished. A 50–200 word start: 46–47% finished. 500+ words: under 31%. If you feed it the whole book, it's not Sail anymore. You put the reins back on a mode that was built to give you freedom. Sail doesn't build a skeleton of the whole book in advance, and that's by design: the point is to let you invent each chapter the way you want. So a full plot simply has nowhere to go. That's why I made a fundamental update right at the start of Sail: - The story box in Sail now asks for one thing only: how your story BEGINS. Your main character, where they are, and what happens in the first chapter.
