There is no one single tonic for writing good songs. I have a tendency to listen for contrasting chord changes using 7th or Diminished chords with Minor chords progression to trigger melody for an edgy folk song. To catch a melody let all the words/phrases/sentiments & vocals flow without a filter for as it takes to get a hook, melody and a basis for lyrics that your subconscious is eluding to & nd write them all down as you go. It might be 5 minutes it might be weeks or months. But once you have verse melody chorus & bridges with mindful lyrics it's time for the next song. Revisit the song multiple times to refine tweak arrange for those perfect imperfections🏹🌴🥥
