Arafah (or Arafat) is a sacred place near Mecca in Saudi Arabia and also the name of one of the most important days in Islam.
The Day of Arafah is the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha. It is the peak day of Hajj pilgrimage.
During Hajj, millions of pilgrims gather at:
Mount Arafat
This gathering is called Wuquf of Arafah — standing in prayer, repentance, and remembrance of Allah. It is considered the most important part of Hajj.
Fast on the Day of Arafah (if it does not weaken them from worship)
Visit or remember Imam Husayn ibn Ali
Attend mosque gatherings and du’a programs
Recite Qur’an and seek forgiveness
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that fasting on this day expiates sins of the previous and coming year for many believers. It is considered one of the holiest days of the Islamic year.
