In an effort to execute, I made a mistake on the name of my trust. I did not like that and wanted to correct it; unfortunately, you cannot do this online. So I called the IRS to find out if there was anything that I could do about it. I was given two options....
OPTION 1: Write a letter of correction (It will take 30 days to be corrected)
The body of the letter needs to include:
Date:
Trust Name:
EIN:
Your name:
Your Title :(Ex. Trustee, Grantor, etc.)
The mistake you made and what you want them to do about it ... (Ex.: change the name, or cancel/just close out altogether.)
Sign:
and mail to:
Internal Revenue Service
333 W. Pershing Rd.
Mail Stop 6055 S-2
Kansas City, MO 64108
OPTION 2:
Create a new EIN, which I will do, and you will still need to send a letter to cancel the EIN # you made the mistake on, instructing them to cancel/close out altogether.
