Melody of Creation
This is a poem I recently wrote. My son-in-law who is a composer is working on putting it to music and I hope that it be presented as part of a contemporary ballet, when finished. (sorry, but the formatting seems to have messed up in the copying of it.)
Melody of Creation
In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD and the WORD was GOD. HE was with GOD in the beginning. Through HIM all things were made and without HIM nothing was made that was made. In HIM was LIFE and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5
The Word opened His mouth and as He spoke a melody poured out, ancient and pure and strong, quietly saturating the atmosphere.
The galaxies resonated with the melody, echoing it back to the Creator, each in its own tempo and pitch.
Angels sang in chorus, harmonizing in intricate patterns that carried the melody to all of creation, radiating colors beyond the rainbow.
With each new creation, new harmonies wove into the creation and still the WORD did not stop.
Growing jealous of his CREATOR, the Angel of Light rebelled becoming the Angel of Darkness singing in harsh, discordant tones as he sought to become like the WORD.
The FATHER heard the disharmony and banished HIS once favored angel and his followers into the outer darkness where they shrieked disharmonies, attempting to unbalance the true song.
The true melody still rang through the universe, ancient and true, clear and strong, carrying the peace of Shalom to every creature that heard and recognized it.
The earth’s galaxy was created and the Sun, Moon and Stars sang in harmony. The winds and waters gathered together, reverberating with the ancient melody. The rocks and the plants, the mountains and the plains all sang in jubilant ecstasy, celebrating life.
The Garden of God, called Eden sang with harmony and beauty until the One fallen into darkness snuck into the center of this beauty uttering a lie of disharmony, seeking to subvert and destroy God’s newest creation.
The two created by the WORD to live in the garden were distracted by the inharmonic sounds and listened to the glib words of the viper when he questioned God’s instructions.
Suddenly they had knowledge they were not equipped to carry and they could not face the FATHER when HE called their names.
Cacophony reigned where once harmonies surrounded them. The first sacrifice clothed them, but they lost the song as they were driven from the garden.
As they tilled the earth and planted or herded, they would hear snatches of the song that still sang through the universe but they no longer claimed it as their own.
Through the ages there were those who caught wind of the harmonies, seeking to hear them clearly, while others tried to make their own music, dancing to their own tune.
The years rolled onward and the music never faded, but only a handful still sought to sing it truthfully and clearly.
Some tried to copy it, but like all forgers, they were unable to sing it in truth.
Others tried to bend the music to their own will, but it was wild and strong and refused to be changed from its true form.
Finally, so many tunes were being sung that they became jumbled, bringing confusion through their undertones, even though the true harmony still wove its way through all creation.
At this moment, the Word became flesh and came down to earth to dwell among HIS people. The true melody rang clearly once again for those who would hear.
The Evil One tried to silence the song once and for all by killing the Word who created it. Darkness tried, hanging the WORD on a cross, until HE died and was buried.
But, the WORD snd HIS song would not stay buried or silent. Instead, He rose from the grave and set the music ringing louder and sweeter than before.
And it still swirls and dances through creation and will do so until every inharmonic sound is silenced when the LAMB THAT WAS SLAIN, THE WORD MADE FLESH, returns to claim HIS own from this earth.
