Marvellous Mushrooms
Mycology is the branch of biology that studies fungi. There are up to 14,000 species. Fungi are neither plant nor human but more evolutionary similar to man than plants. In fact, a mushroom isn't even something that grows independently. It's just the fruiting part of a hidden organism called a mycelium. The mycelium is a web-like structure that grows underground or inside the pores of decaying wood, and it can grow very large. A mycelium that grows in the Blue Mountains in Oregon measures 2.4 miles across and is arguably the largest living organism on Earth. Given the right conditions and sufficient moisture, a mycelium sprouts its fruiting bodies, which pierce the surface of the growing medium and grow into structures characteristic of the species. (This info is copied from the sciencing.com resource, as provided below) Fungi are fundamental for life on earth in their roles as symbionts...Many fungi are able to break down complex organic biomolecules such as lignin, the more durable component of wood, and pollutants such as xenobiotics, petroleum, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. By decomposing these molecules, fungi play a critical role in the global carbon cycle. (wikipedia) The word mycologycomes from the Greek: μύκης (mukēs), meaning "fungus" and the suffix-λογία(-logia), meaning "study". Thus Mycotherapy, is the use of fungi as a resource for nutritional & medicinal purposes. They can be used as a food, medicine or resource. Many fungi produce toxins, antibiotics, and other secondary metabolites.

Candida & Parasites...the pre&pro biotic way of treatment
Other than worms, of which there are tape, pin, round and more, we are also harbourers of flukes, amoeba’s, bacteria (h. Pylori) and Candida. Since we co-exist as part of nature it is only normal to carry a variety and number of parasites. However, things go awry when their numbers increase as this puts our homeostasis out of kilter and has some nasty effects on us e.g. cravings for things, joint aches, feeling fatigued etc, the symptoms are actually very similar to many we see in adrenal fatigue and malnourished individuals. Essentially, what we become is malnourished as we are not able to absorb and assimilate the nutrients we need from the food we eat. We experience gut dysbiosis and, potentially, leaky gut syndrome, when parasites and Candida grow out of control due to a variety of causes, e.g. anti-biotics, diet high in saturated fats and sugar, medicines, stress, etc. Getting rid of parasites should be done every 6 months, or quarterly if we have domestic pets. Candida is trickier to remove and it takes time and, initially, will leave one feeling less well before real improvement is made. It is important to note that some ‘bugs’ are good for us such as probiotics, which are necessary to help us digest food and promote good systemic flora. According to The Daily Burn, the most common probiotic bacteria come from two genus groups: Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium, although there are many others. Each group of bacteria has different species and each species have different strains (the “code” at the end). Researchers are still studying which strains should be used for which health conditions, but a variety have been demonstrated to help with the following: * If you’re travelling abroad … Don’t let 'Delhi belly' get the best of you or your vacation. Taking Saccharomyces boulardii weeks before your trip may help prevent traveller’s diarrhoea, which usually comes from ingesting food or water that’s been contaminated with bacteria.

Stress Management 101 - The ABC's of ADRENAL HEALTH
Working as a health and wellness consultant, I encounter people, almost every day, who struggle with the same batch of complaints such as; - low energy levels, - ongoing fatigue, - struggling to fall asleep and interrupted sleeping patterns, - weight gain - particularly around their abdomen, - fluctuations in mood but particularly towards the miserable end of the happiness scale, - muscle tension and cramps, - headaches and joint pains, - low immune functionality and auto-immune issues e.g. gut matters so on and so forth. These signs, generally, when, presented together, are an indication of ADRENAL OVERDRIVE and in chronic cases can lead adrenal fatigue. Basically - BURNOUT! Essentially we are bio-chemical beings and most of our 'dis-eases' can self correct with lifestyle adjustments plus dietary adaptations, together with the support of natural remedies. In order to assist your body in correcting imbalances (optimal homeostatic function) and treating the root cause of the dis-eases (and promoting santé), follow these steps (as long as you have ruled out any possible dire medical reasons with the advice of a qualified medical professional!): A. Before embarking on any course of corrective treatment, lay the foundation by removing nutrient-depleting parasites (they crawl in thin and they climb out stout!); wormwood, cloves, garlic, black walnut, wormseed, Neem, Grapefruit Seed Extract, etc. are a few effective examples of helminthic eradicators to support purging of worms (round, tape, pin and hook, to name a few), protozoa, Candida and flukes.

The Magic of Magnesium
What is it? Magnesium is an elemental compound found naturally in many different foods, supplements, and natural formations of the earth. An alkaline earth metal. Magnesium helps maintain the proper levels of other minerals and aids in energy production. Why is it important? This vital mineral is responsible for the regulation and proper execution of over 300 enzyme (chemical) processes in your body. Essentially it makes things happen! - It regulates protein synthesis, - regulates blood pressure, and - ensures healthy nerve function, - responsible for helping bone formation, - DNA and RNA synthesis and repair, - regulate blood sugar levels, - contributes to the production of antioxidants within your body, and - even helps your body use other minerals like calcium. potassium & zinc - helps to maintain energy flow and a lack thereof can result in symptoms e.g. fatigue, depression, muscle cramping, stiffness and insomnia. What causes low levels? Magnesium is depleted by - parasites, - candida, - high caffeine intake, - stress, - consumption of highly processed foods and - certain medications. Magnesium deficiency can cause: - low appetite. - nausea and vomiting. - fatigue and weakness. - muscle spasms or tremors. - abnormal heart rhythms. How much do we need? The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for magnesium is 400mg daily for men, and 310mg for women. These figures represent the bare minimum amount of magnesium your body needs to function properly. Eating foods high in magnesium, and using supplements, if you are have health issues or a stressful lifestyle (like who doesn't!?!), is a great way to help ensure you never fall below this threshold. When purchasing a magnesium supplement it is most important to note the elemental magnesium dosage because this is the amount that your body will absorb & utilize. Sources of magnesium: green leafy veg, avo, nuts, legumes, banana... Best forms of magnesium Magnesium citrate
